A Little About Me

First and foremost, I am a wife and mother. I have four sons, one daughter, one daughter in law, and an unbelievably supportive husband. My first 4 births were amazing, and I came away feeling happy and satisfied. My 5th was a little different. I had a nurse that was less than helpful. In fact she seemed almost bothered that I had come in. After an hour of good labor and not a lot of progress I asked for an epidural. This would be my last childbirth, and figured I would have it pain free. Well, 30 minutes later she came back with the anesthesiologist. She didn't bother to check me, or even see how I was doing. The anesthesiologist even asked if she was going to check me, and she said, "She was only a 4 an hour ago." I can still hear her voice in my head! I had the epidural, and as soon as it was in place, I rolled over and delivered my baby girl. I remembered thinking, if she had just checked me, I could have gone without the epidural!
Later I was talking to my mom. who had been there, and told how glad I was that this was my fifth birth and not my first birth.
About two years after that experience, I learned about Doulas! The birth center where I had given birth had started a program and was going to have a training. I signed up as quick as I could! I was so excited to be there for other women and help them have a positive birth experience. Well, it wasn't to be. The training got pushed back a few months, and we finally sold our house and moved to TN where my husband had already been living for 2 months.
Fast forward 7 years and I completed a training program in 2010 through American Child Birth Educators. I thought I knew a lot about labor having had 5 kids, but I learned so much. I came away with an even greater passion for the work of a Doula.
In 2018 I attended a second training through BEST doula training. This amazing group taught me even more about being the best doula I can. I was also blessed to attend a training for their childbrith educatior prpgram. I fell in love with the cirriculum and have started teaching a group childirth class.
